A small polished freeform of purple labradorite, the rarer cousin of the blue-flash labradorite most people know.
Most labradorite flashes blue and green. Purple is the rare one. The colour isn’t a dye or a coating: labradorite is made of extremely thin layers inside the stone, and when light bounces between them some colours are strengthened. The layer spacing in most labradorite favours blue and green, so a stone whose layers throw back violet and purple is much less common, and collectors look out for it.
Like all labradorite the flash depends on the angle: turn the stone slowly under a lamp or in daylight and the purple rolls across the surface, often with blue and gold alongside it. From some angles it looks grey, and then it lights up.
