Amethyst
Violet quartz that ranges from soft lilac to deep royal purple, often with paler zones or clear patches. It has a glassy shine and catches the light at its edges.
About amethyst
Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz. Its colour comes from traces of iron in the crystal, altered by natural radiation in the ground. The name comes from the ancient Greek amethystos, meaning not intoxicated.
In crystal tradition amethyst is said to be a calming stone, linked with peace, clear thinking and restful sleep. It has long been a favourite for meditation and is traditionally given as a stone of protection and balance.

Many people keep amethyst on a bedside table or under the pillow, hold it during meditation, or keep a piece on the desk as a quiet reminder to slow down. It is also a classic February birthstone gift.
Care
Keep out of direct sunlight, as amethyst can fade over time. Clean with water and a soft cloth. It is hard, but store it apart from other stones to avoid chips.
