£6A faceted crystal point on a fine chain, for dowsing and asking yes or no questions. Hold it still, ask, and watch how it swings. Each one is natural stone, so colour and pattern vary a little.
How to use your pendulum
- Cleanse it first. Pass it through sage or palo santo smoke, or leave it on a selenite plate overnight.
- Hold it still. Take the end of the chain between your thumb and first finger, rest your elbow on a table and let the crystal hang just above your other palm or a pendulum cloth.
- Find your yes and no. Ask “Show me yes”, and wait. It may swing back and forth, side to side or in a circle. Then ask “Show me no”. Every pendulum and every person is a little different, so learn yours before you start.
- Ask simple questions. Keep them to yes or no, ask one at a time and stay relaxed. If it barely moves or circles loosely, the answer is “not now” or “ask again”.
- Say thank you. Many people thank their pendulum when they finish and keep it wrapped in a pouch between readings.
A little history
Dowsing with a swinging weight is one of the oldest ways people have looked for answers. In the 1500s German miners walked the hills with dowsing rods to find seams of metal, and by the 1700s and 1800s hanging pendulums were used across Europe to find water, lost objects and even to tell whether a baby would be a boy or a girl.
In the 1900s dowsers in France called the practice radiesthesia, and pendulums became a favourite tool in spiritual and crystal healing. Today they are used for yes or no questions, to choose between crystals or remedies, and to check the energy of a room or a chakra.
