What fluorite is said to do
Where the name comes from
From the Latin fluere, “to flow”, because it melts easily and was used to help metals flow in furnaces. It also gave its name to fluorescence, as many fluorites glow under UV light. Derbyshire’s famous Blue John, mined near Castleton, is a banded fluorite.
Its neat, layered colours have made it a stone for order, focus and study.
