Meaning
What bloodstone is said to do
Where the name comes from
Its older name, heliotrope, is Greek for “sun-turner”: the Roman writer Pliny wrote that it turned the sun’s reflection red in water. A medieval Christian legend tells that its red spots first appeared when drops of Christ’s blood fell on green stone at the foot of the cross.
Over the centuries it became a stone for strength and courage, carried through hard times.
